World Health Organization (WHO)
WHO is the world's leading agency for health and is a public organisation operating from within the United Nations system. Established in 1948, WHO is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries, and monitoring and assessing health trends.
Owned and directed by the governments of 193 member states, WHO is committed to the promotion of health as a shared responsibility, ensuring equitable access to essential care and collective defence against transnational threats.
